Increase in statutory payments and tribunal rates

Statutory payments to increase from April 2011

From 11 April 2011, the following rates of statutory payments are expected to apply:

- £81.60 for statutory sick pay; and
- £128.73 for statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay.

Tribunal rates to increase from February 2011

From 1 February 2011, the cap on a week’s pay used to calculate inter alia, statutory redundancy pay and the basic award for unfair dismissal, will be £400 per week (previously £380) and the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal will rise to £68,400 (from £65,300).

In order for the new awards to apply to an unfair dismissal claim, the effective date of termination of the employee’s employment needs to be on or after 1 February 2011. It is irrelevant on what date the compensation is awarded as it is the date of the event/s giving rise to the compensation that is relevant.
